Inktober 2018

This year I participated in my first Inktober: Every October, artists all over the world take on the Inktober drawing challenge by doing one ink drawing a day the entire month (inktober.com).  (See bottom of this post to see a gallery of all my illustrations!)

Inktober was started by artist Jay Parker:

I created Inktober in 2009 as a challenge to improve my inking skills and develop positive drawing habits. It has since grown into a worldwide endeavor with thousands of artists taking on the challenge every year.

The rules are simple: just pick up a pen and start drawing. Ideally you draw everyday (or every other day or every weekend). Many artists choose to share their inked drawings through social media outlets such as instagram, using the hashtag #inktober and/or #inktober2018. If you follow me on instagram @MayaLikesArt, perhaps you’ve been seeing my daily posts.

Although, this is optional, I decided to follow the official prompt list announced each year by Inktober:

I had a lot of fun participating this year. I admit I found it a bit difficult to have an illustration finished and photographed each day. (Quite a number of them were posted just before midnight!) I personally loved the prompt list. As an illustrator it was a great little workout for my creative juices each day. (Some days more successful than others! haha). Overall it was a very rewarding experience. Particularly seeing what other artists came up with each day!
