So it’s been almost a week since Nuit Blanche Ottawa+Gatineau 2013 and I think I am more or less recuperated by now! haha
The event runs from dusk till dawn…and…it rained, A LOT! The installation I was part of was indeed outside. BUT with some extra pitched tents we were a go! Originally we hoped we could spread the installation a bit farther area-wise but alas you can’t control mother nature. If you want to know more about the set up I worked on with Lemonjellow productions, you can check out the blog post I wrote up on their site here, which includes some nice photos.
In preparation for this project we asked through social media what brightens your day and what inspires you. The outcome were paper bag lanterns with the messages we received printed onto them. Viewers were invited to contemplate what brings light into their lives and watch these glowing messages dance before them. A part of our installation also included intermittent dance performances specially choreographed to compliment our uplifting theme.
Here’s some photos of our project I took with the ol’ cellular (again please check the post on Lemonjellow for better photos!): Click for slideshow
I had to stay by our project for most of the night to make sure everything kept running and to answer questions. But I did manage to step out a bit to see what other fun things were going on in the city, here is what I ran into! (captions under each photo when you hover over them or Click for slideshow):
Despite the rain, it was great so see that people still came out. Unfortunately I feel it significantly reduced the amount of people out that night. The installations seemed very spread out, I assume it is because many had to be cancelled due to the rain. Next year I’m thinking of doing a roaming project…or at least something more waterproof!
